Skills For Life
The Skills for
Life unit at Belle Isle Foundation helps people to build their confidence
by helping them to improve their reading, writing and
maths skills.
There are no formal classes as such, as learners attend
one-to-one sessions with the tutor, and these are arranged to fit in
with the learners home and work commitments.
Help is available to all who live in Leeds 10 and advice and guidance
is also provided to individuals living in other parts of Leeds who wish
to access group sessions via the Leeds colleges.
The Skills for Life unit actively engages with community
groups and has several outreach centres in the Leeds 10 area and is currently
working towards sessions being available through the library network.
Several projects are underway including the Belle Isle Foundation Job
Club which is fully supported by a Skills for Life tutor and designed
to help people access work and job related training. Other community
projects are run throughout the local area.
Learners wishing to attend the Belle Isle Foundation for
support would need to undergo a literacy and numeracy assessment in order
to establish their level of need. This would form the basis of their
tailor made tuition which would be detailed on their individual learning
plan.
